Weight Loss Surgery

Obesity can be treated in many ways, with the surgical treatment being Weight-Loss Surgery.  Also known as Bariatric Surgery, Weight-Loss Surgery essentially makes changes to the digestive system by limiting how much food a person can eat or by reducing the absorption of food.  Bariatric surgery is the term encompassing all of the surgical treatments for morbid obesity. It is usually taken up when other measures to reduce weight have not worked. The operation is prescribed to treat morbid obesity (defined as a body mass index greater than 40), type 2 diabetes, hypertension, sleep apnea and other co-morbid conditions. Two of the most common procedures are Sleeve Gastrectomy and Gastric Bypass.
